GIP receptor

The receptor for glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide; the second target of dual agonists like tirzepatide.

GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) is a gut hormone involved in insulin secretion and fat metabolism. Tirzepatide activates the GIP receptor in addition to the GLP-1 receptor, and this dual action is the leading explanation for its larger average weight loss compared with GLP-1-only drugs. Research into GIP's exact role in appetite and energy balance is ongoing.
