Tirzepatide
A dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist sold as Mounjaro (diabetes) and Zepbound (weight management).
Tirzepatide is a dual agonist: it activates both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors. The added GIP activity is thought to amplify its appetite and metabolic effects, and in trials tirzepatide produced the largest average weight loss of the current class, in the low-to-mid 20s percent of body weight at the top dose. It is branded Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management. Larger loss on treatment can mean a larger rebound at cessation if it is not paired with a maintenance plan.
