STEP trial
The clinical trial program that established semaglutide for weight management.
STEP (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with obesity) is the series of phase 3 trials that tested semaglutide 2.4 mg for weight management, leading to Wegovy's approval. Headline results showed average weight loss around 15 percent of body weight over 68 weeks. A widely cited extension showed that stopping the drug led to substantial regain even with continued diet and exercise, one of the clearest demonstrations that the off-ramp, not just the on-ramp, determines lasting results.
